This design was adapted to twice the size of the original "His Name is Jesus" as customers wrote us wanting to stitch this design as a gift to their church. The original "His Name is Jesus" design is 15 x 11 3/8 . 200 x 140 stitches, whereas this version is double that size at 30 x 21-3/8 . 420 X 300 stitches. Design size is based on 14 count Aida or 28 count Linen or Evenweave over two strands.
Diane Higdon shares how the original "His Name is Jesus" design came about...
"This is my favorite pattern and I've done over 100 of them over the years. The woman who gave it to me is Martha Pilgrim.
Over 20 years. ago, I was in the frame shop that belonged to a friend of mine and she always would let me go in the back to look at the cross stitches people brought in that were waiting to be framed. When I saw this piece, it took my breath away and I told her I had to have it. She told me she didn't think the design was published and gave me the name and phone number of the woman who brought it in. I called and then went to Martha's house and she told me that her nephew had designed it. She handed me the original and said I was welcome to copy it, which I did (and then brought it right back to her).
I especially like to stitch this design for churches and pastors because I feel like it sort of "links" our church with other churches. I also like to do them for missionaries"

I really love how striking this design is with the large calligraphy "Joy" as the focal point surrounded by so many verses. I think that you will enjoy stitching this as well!

Gospel means "Good News", "Message" or "Glad Tidings", which is repeated through the lettering on the cross motif. I think that the three shades of turquoise along with the brown tones looks great on either white or vintage fabric.
I can imagine this message of "Good News" prominently featured in a families home or adorning a church foyer.

This Little Light of Mine Finished size if stitched on 14 count Aida or 28 count even weave or linen (over 2), 10 ¼ x 21 ⅜ - 26.04cm x 54.61cm - 144w X 300h stitches This Little Light of Mine would be a wonderful addition to a child's room, either framed or turned into a hanging wall banner. The design was fun to create with the many "Shine" symbols such as the candle, stars and hearts. I like the way the lettering looks as though hand drawn and colored in by a child. Although I have not test stitched this, I'm confident that the chart is error free and would be fairly quick to stitch up. Sandra |
